PREFACE

We are pleased to present the proceedings of “GeoEdmonton’08”, the 61st Canadian Geotechnical Conference and the 9th Joint CGS/IAH-CNC Groundwater Conference held at the Westin Edmonton, Alberta from September 21-24, 2008.

The conference featured over 250 papers and presentations from authors from across Canada and around the world. Over 500 delegates came together to exchange information and to share their professional knowledge in the geotechnical and hydrogeological fields.

The organizing committee would like to thank the many individuals who contributed to the success of the 2008 conferences - in particular the members of the organizing committee, our invited presenters and the many volunteers who helped over the 24-month planning period and at the conference.

Nous sommes heureux de présenter les comptes-rendus de « GéoEdmonton2008 » la 61e conférence géotechnique canadienne et la 9e conférence conjointe SCG/AIH-SNC sur les eaux souterraines, tenu à l’hôtel Westin Edmonton, en Alberta du 21 au 24 septembre 2008.

Plus de 250 articles et exposés ont été présentés au congrès par des auteurs canadiens et internationaux. Plus de 500 délégués se sont réunis pour échanger de l'information et partager leurs connaissances professionnelles en géotechnique et en hydrogéologie.

Le Comité organisateur aimerait remercier les nombreux individus qui ont contribué au succès des congrès de 2008, tout particulièrement les membres du comité organisateur, les présentateurs invités et les nombreux bénévoles qui ont offert leur temps durant les 24 mois de planification et pendant la conférence.
